(And my answers)
Choosing the right wedding photographer holds immense importance in shaping your memories of that special day. To help you make an informed decision, I’ve assembled a list of five essential questions to ask potential photographers, along with my answers. Finding a photographer who shares your vision and values ensures that your wedding memories are captured authentically and beautifully.
1. What Defines Your Photography Style?
2. How Do You Adapt to Different Lighting Conditions?
3. Can You Explain Your Approach to Posed Shots?
4. How Do You Like to Work on The Day?
5. What Is Your Process for Delivering the Final Photos?
1. What Defines Your Photography Style?
Importance: Understanding their style helps you envision how your moments will be captured and edited, ensuring a match with your preferences.
Rebecca: I specialize in candid, documentary-style photography. My goal is to capture genuine moments as they happen, creating a narrative that reflects the true essence of your wedding day. I aim to preserve the raw emotions and interactions that make your day unique. As far as post-possessing, I edit true-to-film, aka, true to colour. We both get the benefits and advancements of top-of-the-range digital cameras but with the unique nostalgia of reel film by shooting both digital and film on the day. These are photographs that print beautifully and hold true to the passing of time, no trending filters here, you chose your colours for a reason and I’m not going to add a yellow filter on them for absolutely no reason!
2. How Do You Adapt to Different Lighting Conditions?
Importance: Things change! Light changes! Where you are getting ready, where your ceremony if held may not be “ideal” photography lightening conditions. Adapting to light changes ensures that your photos remain stunning, no matter the setting or time of day.
Rebecca: Adapting to diverse lighting scenarios is a key skill. Whether I have a camera in my hands or not, I am always “finding the light”, and I have trained myself to move myself, rather than the subject, in order for the scene to be captured most beautifully. I also enjoy using flash for a certain “look” – vintage, edgy, editorial; and also for for challenging lighting situations where a flash is necessary to be able to have the highest quality image.
3. Can You Explain Your Approach to Posed Shots?
Importance: Learning a photographers approach to posed shots reveals their ability to make these moments feel natural and comfortable all while capturing beautiful images you will love.
Rebecca: While my focus is on candid moments, I understand the importance of posed photos, namely during your couples photos. During these instances, you do not need to watch YouTube video’s to prepare yourselves! I will take care of you both by offering gentle guidance through natural prompts, capturing authentic expressions. My aim is to make these moments comfortable and genuine, avoiding forced or unnatural poses.
4. How Do You Like to Work on The Day?
Importance: Getting to know how a photographer will fit into your day before you book them is vital. Every photographer works differently and you will find you vibe with one approach over another.
Rebecca: Creating an unobtrusive and calm atmosphere is my priority. I work discreetly to capture the essence of your day without being obtrusive. My goal is to document genuine interactions and emotions while allowing you and your guests to enjoy the celebration without interruption. This also makes for the best photographs, and the most fun in being able to re-live your day through your album.
5. What Is Your Process for Delivering the Final Photos?
Importance: having clear information and expectations (ideally outlined in your contract), will mean that you are not left guessing when and how you will receive your images.
Rebecca: After the wedding, I meticulously curate and enhance the images to bring out their best qualities. You’ll receive an initial “sneak peek” of approximately 50 photos within 48 hours in your online gallery. Following that, I focus on completing your full gallery of high-resolution images that truly narrate the story of your day. My standard delivery time for the complete album is within 2 weeks (with a maximum of 4 weeks). Additionally, you’ll receive around 100 professional 10×15 physical prints by post, along with a USB containing the images in print format. If you plan to print or enlarge images at your convenience, the USB files are perfect for this purpose. From your full gallery, you can select your favourite photo(s) for a custom-framed 20x25cm enlargement. The number of prints depends on the service you initially booked, and there’s always the option to expand your order. I collaborate with a local artisan in France who crafts hand-made frames, offering a variety of colours and finishes for you to choose from.
